Will bring the “wrong” type of visitor to Wrexham

Wrexham County Borough Council response:

“Many of the inmates who will be housed in the prison will be from the area. Their families and friends will already be here and will be able to visit regularly. There is strong evidence to show that when inmates are housed away from their families and friends visiting rates are lower. When they are subsequently released into a community, this makes resettlement into the community more difficult which contributes to increases in re-offending rates. More visits are therefore equated to reduced reoffending. Many welsh speaking inmates are currently disadvantaged in prison due their inability to communicate well in English.”
