The area does not need a prison

Wrexham County Borough Council response:

“North Wales does need a prison. There is no prison in the region at all and currently all prisoners are sent outside of the region, mainly to England and Merseyside. This causes many problems to prisoners, their families, the criminal justice system and to society in general. It is well documented that the further a prisoner is from his/her home, the more likely they are to re-offend on release. It is also very costly to keep prisoners far from their areas of origin. There are also big issues with Welsh language provision.”
